Woodlawn’s Irish-American Christmas Tour
Saturday, December 9, 2023 1:00PM
Celebrate the holiday season on the Woodlawn Conservancy Trolley with a guided tour of an Irish Christmas. Join award-winning author Kevin Fitzpatrick (County Kildare) on a tour to visit Woodlawn memorials to wonderful Irish-Americans from the worlds of entertainment, history, politics, and military heroes. The guided 70-minute tour includes visits to beautiful mausoleums and monuments. Wear your favorite Aran knit sweaters and get in the Christmas spirit. Among the stops are composer of “Babes in Toyland” Victor Herbert, silent film star Olive Thomas, Mayor John Purroy Mitchel, author of “Darby O’Gill and the Good People” Herminie Templeton Kavanagh, The Four Cohans starring George M. Cohan, and the most popular Irish-American songwriter on the Jazz Age, Chauncey Olcott, composer of “My Wild Irish Rose,” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” There will be singing, a trivia contest, and of course hot chocolate.
