Gilded age Art and Design: Woodlawn Landscapes
WAlking Tour, 1:00 PM
Spend an hour with Woodlawn's Architectural Historian Anthony Pellino exploring the bold personalities, cultural forces and wonderful artistry of some of Woodlawn's funerary masterpieces as we walk through the cemetery. Each talk will focus on a different aspect of artistry and design explained in terms of how patrons, designers, and artists make the decisions that go into a finished work.
Sculpture
Bronze, granite, marble, limestone: Woodlawn holds a trove of freestanding and architectural sculpture created by and for some of the leading lights of the Gilded Age. Learn about major New York City sculptural projects of the era and techniques that make sculpted elements emotionally compelling. Woodlawn patrons have left a legacy of three-dimensional artworks to be found throughout the cemetery: this is a rare opportunity to hear about the context of their creation.
