Renowned composer and JALC musician, Victor Goines, will perform The Woodlawn Suite, a piece he was commissioned to write and perform by the Woodlawn Conservancy. The piece consists of a series of musical biographies that celebrate the lives and legacies of inspiring figures memorialized at The Woodlawn Cemetery, such as Duke Ellington, Bert Williams, Florence Mills, Coleman Hawkins and a special tribute to the first women millionaire and business entrepreneur, Madam C.J. Walker, whose confidence and swagger inspired Victor to write a tune in her honor. While there is no charge for admittance, you must pre-register. The performance will take place on the field, adjacent to the subway entrance to cemetery. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
